Dear Family and Friends,

I only have a short time at the internet cafe so this will be brief - The after school program is still growing, the kids are loving it...the local Zulu girl that Our Journey has hired to help me is doing fantastic. By the time I leave, I will feel very comfortable leaving it in her capable hands. You have to realize for most of these kids it is their first time having paints, crayons, books, paste and scissors to play with. We start off doing some english with flash cards, then we sing a song in english...yep, they have to listen to my tone deaf voice....can you imagine them all sounding like me .... I kinda feel bad about that...but you gotta do what you gotta do!

They have never played "Simon Says" before ... so I am teaching them - it is fun and they will learn more english words at the same time. After that it is craft time and story time and then they play in my yard with the outdoor toys that Our Journey has purchased with your generous donations ...we have cricket, net ball, marbles, jump rope and frisbees....for two hours my house and yard feel like heavenly bliss. We end the day with them singing a prayer in Zulu. I literally have to push them out at 4:30 because it gets dark here early and most have to walk quite a distance to get home. The next journal I will update you on what the Gogo's (grandmothers) are doing, we are in the process of purchasing two used sewing machines, material and scissors for one of the groups, thank you Chuck and Dennis!

Love,
Maureen
